Wild Skies is the third in Cassie Mint’s Rugged Loner’s series. Each book stands completely alone and this book is even more removed from the previous two in the series in that it’s about a professor rather than a loner mountain man. But they go up to the mountain so we’re okay that the link is there!
I’ll admit that professor / student romances aren’t normally my jam. I just don’t like the anxiety I feel while reading about whether or not the professor will get caught and get into trouble. Well, and the sometimes icky power balance / abuse of power. But it’s a Cassie Mint book so my want to read trumped my reservations.
Shy Maren has always had a thing for her astronomy professor, Gregg. And she’s sure that she’s noticed him checking her out, too. When the opportunity comes up – a wild camping trip to view a meteor shower – she knows it’s her chance.

Astronomy Professor Greg doesn’t know how he’s going to survive a camping trip that includes shy student Maren. He can’t help but be drawn to her but it never feels gross and he tries his hardest to resist her and what he feels for her. He was a good hero and I liked him.
I liked Maren, too. Starting off as the shy student who has a crush on her professor, she gained in confidence as she found that her feelings were reciprocated. She also found her voice, realising what she would and would’t accept – it helped rebalance the power inherent in the initial professor / student relationship.
This was a fast story and one that you didn’t want to put down. Happily for what I like their affair is not discovered by the university. . Now that I know that, I might read it again and probably enjoy it even more. It’s sexy – even if they don’t go all the way until nearer the end; It’s worth the wait, though. Cassie Mint remains one of my go-to, must-buy authors of insta-love, quick and dirty stories and this book is another winner for her. 4 stars.
