Review: Following Maggie by Melanie Moreland

A snowstorm, an unexpected delay, and a caring stranger are all it takes for Sebastian Ruggers to change the course of his life.

Instead of pushing paper and living a life he dreads, he follows his heart and the girl he meets to a new city.

A different life.

Maggie Andrews is heading back to the only town that ever felt like home. When she meets Sebastian, somehow she knows, together, they’ll find a life together sweeter than the ones they are leaving behind. She can help him find his future. He can be the person she needs.

They only have to say yes.

Sometimes you discover home isn’t only a location on a map—but the person you share it with.

A sweet and comforting hug of a story

I am a sucker for whatever Melanie Moreland chooses to write and in this case it’s an insta-love / love at first sight story – part of the multi-author, standalone Coming Home series. This book reminded me, in the theme and emotion, reminded me of Ms Moreland’s equally delightful Insta-Spark series.

And so to this book itself. This is a love at first sight story in every sense of the word. Sebastian and Maggie have an instant connection that neither can deny – and neither could I. I believed it and I was rooting for them as a couple from the get-go. They were exactly what the other needed and it was like watching two puzzle pieces finding each other and just clicking together.

For a couple that change their lives, and profess feelings for each other, Maggie and Sebastian came across as very ‘normal’ and sensible people. That made me like them more as they could easily be me or you. I loved the solace, comfort, protection, friendship and love that each brought to the other. As I’ve come to expect from Ms Moreland – this was an emotional story that depicts everything that I want in a relationship for my own. And even more than that, it makes it seem achievable.

Melanie Moreland has once again played my heartstrings with superb skill and given me all the feels in the process.”

The story itself is fairly simple but again, it’s like reading everything I want in life. I sometimes wonder if Melanie Moreland has some sort of wire tap on my brain! Sebastian and Maggie make a home for themselves, making friends, finding family and building their dream lives. It was adorable to watch. There is a kink in the road but it’s dispatched quickly and this book is almost 100% angst free.

I wouldn’t mind reading Chris and Mandy’s story – or just any couple that brings me back to this wonderful town and these awesome characters. I would have loved to have an epilogue so I could keep on reading about Sebastian and Maggie. But then again, I could have just kept reading about their lives and never stopped if I had the chance!

This book is a sweet, comforting hug of a story. It’s fairly short (at only 124 pages) and you will race through it in no time at all. There’s an emotional connection and the kind of love that we all aspire to. Melanie Moreland has once again played my heartstrings with superb skill and given me all the feels in the process. And I loved every minute of it. 5 stars.

* I received this book in exchange for my honest review

New York Times/USA Today bestselling author Melanie Moreland, lives a happy and content life in a quiet area of Ontario with her beloved husband of twenty-seven-plus years and their rescue cat, Amber. Nothing means more to her than her friends and family, and she cherishes every moment spent with them.

While seriously addicted to coffee, and highly challenged with all things computer-related and technical, she relishes baking, cooking, and trying new recipes for people to sample. She loves to throw dinner parties, and also enjoys traveling, here and abroad, but finds coming home is always the best part of any trip.

Melanie loves stories, especially paired with a good wine, and enjoys skydiving (free falling over a fleck of dust) extreme snowboarding (falling down stairs) and piloting her own helicopter (tripping over her own feet.) She’s learned happily ever afters, even bumpy ones, are all in how you tell the story.
