EDDIE: Cancel your dinky little roomette on the train. Iām booking us two of the big bedroom suites.
BIRDIE: Iāll cancel it AFTER youāve booked the other sleeper rooms. And reimburse you.
EDDIE: Donāt worry about it. Just cancel your tickets. I got this. Round trip. Iām on the Amtrak website right now.
BIRDIE: You donāt have to leave NYC when I do! Youāll hardly be able to spend any time with your Instagram girlfriend that you’ve never met!
EDDIE: Itās fine. Sheāll be fine with it. Cancel your tickets.
BIRDIE: You arenāt going to stop texting me until Iāve canceled them, are you?
EDDIE: Damn right Iām not. Just do it. You can thank me later.

EDDIE: Um. Did you cancel your tickets?
BIRDIE: Yes, Edward. I canceled them.
EDDIE: Okay, because it turns out they only had one Family Bedroom from LA to Chicago. But the good news is I booked it for us. Itās the biggest room they had. The bad news is I booked it for us. And itās the only sleeper room they have left now.
EDDIE: In related news, there was also only one room left from Chicago to New York.
EDDIE: Hands up if youāre excited! *man raising hand emoji*
BIRDIE: I am so mad at you right now.

Oh so delicious!
Sometimes you look forward to a book so much, and enjoyed the preceding book so much, that when you finally get to read it, the reality of the book can never live up to your stratospheric expectations.
Thankfully, thatās not the case for A Very Friendly Valentine as it lived up to my fangirl expectations and then some.
We first encountered Eddie, our hero, in the wonderful A Very Bossy Christmas. That book followed Eddieās brother, Declan as he found his own happily ever after. Even with the overlap of characters, this book stands completely alone – although once youāve read and loved this book, youāll want to go back and read A Very Bossy Christmas.
Eddie is a heartthrob actor and while heās as cocky and a little bit arrogant – itās warranted! Yum! But heās also delightfully boyish. Heās funny, sweet, kind and the relationship he has with Birdie – both as best friend and partner – is everything. My heart skipped a beat on so many occasions reading about the pair. I just loved them.
Birdie was my kind of heroine. She was a bit quirky, a bit nerdy and a whole lot of fun. She was the perfect foil for Eddieās free spirit – yet she was also something of his partner in crime. Quirks and all – I havenāt wanted to be a character more!
For the first part weāve kind of got some unrequited love going on – along with the forced proximity! But they way the relationship seamlessly morphs into something more – something deeper – was both fun and delightfully emotional to watch. You could feel what they were going through. And lord did you want them to take that next step.
As well as the emotion, we get a whole heap of laughter throughout the book. Birdie and Eddie are, of course, hilarious. Equally, Declan, the Irish cousins, Gavin, Eddieās mum – all of them tickled me and made me love this book all the more.
But the best part of the book for me was Eddie and Birdie as a couple. They were cute, funny and hot as hell. The sex was steamy and sensual – as were all the little touches and looks between our pair. I loved their relationship as friends and loved that their chemistry and banter continued when their relationship changed. But most of all, I loved that Eddie loved Birdie for exactly who she was. And vice versa. If you ever feel that youāre not the kind of girl to get the best guy, then read this book. Itāll give you faith in being loved for your whole self! GAH!
Kayley Loring has once again blown me away with a story that touched and tickled me. The writing was top notch, the characters divine and the storyline utterly addictive. I didnāt think it could get any better than A Very Bossy Christmas but I am delighted to have been proved wrong. Buy this book – you will not be disappointed!
Before writing steamy romantic comedy novels, Kayley Loring got her BFA in creative writing from a Canadian university and had a fifteen-year career as a screenwriter in Los Angeles (under a different name). She mostly wrote PG-13 family comedies that studios would pay her lots of money for and then never make into movies. In 2017 she decided to move to the Pacific Northwest and write about all the fun stuff that she wasnāt allowed to write about in those PG-13 scripts. Now sheās breathing cleaner air and writing dirtier words. Itās an adjustment that sheās happily getting used to.
