Blind dating: the act in which you date a stranger and hope itās not the kid you once babysat. And try not to freak out when itās your one-night stand from two weeks ago.
As the last woman standing, I, Piper Carter, am officially a loner. Apparently, that means itās time for me to get out there and find myself a man.
My protestations that I have no time for it falls on deaf ears and the next thing I know, Iām on a blind date with someone my best friends assure me will be perfect for me.
Maverick Donovan, the guy I, uh, know very, very wellā¦
After one conversation that makes my disdain for this setup very clear, the superstar playboy author asks me for only one thing: my help with his research for his next novel.
Turns out, the heroine in his next hot romance is the owner of a bakery, but all his ill-fated efforts are baking is the batteries in his fire alarm.
I agree. Iāll create some recipes for his leading lady, and heāll credit me and my store, giving me the recognition I need to help me on my way to franchising.
If only we didnāt have to spend almost every free waking moment together to make it happen.
I donāt want to give my heart to the guy with a trail of broken ones behind him, but thereās a fundamental problem with that plan.
Iām pretty sure Iām doing just thatā¦

A fun end to the series
This is the last book in Hartās White Peak series which encompasses the Bookwormās Guide series and then the Introvertās Guide series. While this book does stand alone, and features the story and HEA of a completely separate couple, there are loads of cameos from couples past who are all linked in some way. I still think it would make sense for someone jumping into the series here, though.
Piper is the last single one in her friend group and sheās fine with that. Her friends, however, are less than fine with her lone status and keep setting her up on blind dates. She agrees to one more blind date – only to come face to face with the guy she had a smoking hot one night stand with a while back.
I loved the premise that your āblindā date could actually be someone youād already seen naked! Piper was a likeable girl and I really believed that she liked who she was and wasnāt all that interested in coupling up with someone. And itās always enjoyable to watch someone eat their words as they fall hook, line and sinker for that special person. Piper had some snark but she was much more level headed than many of Hartās heroines, and not so abrasive.
Maverick was a good guy and took the role of the one who was much more smitten and all-in than the other in the pair. I feel I didnāt really get to know him all that well but he was a hot sweetheart who wrote romance novels – whatās not to love?
The pair were sweet together but I would have liked a bit more sizzle – especially since our pair were already, well, acquainted. I just wanted some oomph in that department and as such, I felt Mav and Piperās connection was definitely missing something.
Thereās not much drama going on in this story – itās more of a meander through the early days of the relationship between Mav and Piper. There is some side issues with Piperās brother, and also with the inmates at the old folksā home – unnecessary to the love story but it kept the pages turning.
Emma Hart is on point, as always, with her smarts and snarks. Her writing is sharp and she always makes me laugh with both the wit and sheer silliness. Itās never a chore to pick up and get stuck into an Emma Hart story. Thereās also always a lot of friendship goals which makes me happy.
This story didnāt rock my world but it was an enjoyable, uplifting story and a great way to sign-off on the series and the residents of White Peak as a whole. 4 stars from me and recommended to fans of Emma Hart or those reading through the seriesā.
* I received this book in exchange for my honest review. *
Emma Hart is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of over thirty novels and has been translated into several different languages.
She is a mother, wife, lover of wine, Pink Goddess, and valiant rescuer of wild baby hedgehogs.
Emma prides herself on her realistic, snarky smut, with comebacks that would make a PMS-ing teenage girl proud.
Yes, really. She’s that sarcastic.
