Review: Hot and Heavy by Erika Wilde

He swore he wouldn’t touch her, but she’s about to test his restraint.

Prim and proper secretary Melodie Turner has been in lust for her boss for years… and she’s finally going to do something about it. P.I. Cole Sommers might be able to barely resist her sexy new attitude and flirtatious behavior, but when she takes a cue from his current case and decides to seduce Cole’s mind with highly provocative letters, she knows his body won’t be very far behind…

Cole is definitely in over his head. He’s got more cases than he can handle, but all he can think about is taking his secretary to bed, turning her over his knee, and showing her what happens to naughty girls who don’t behave. At every turn, Melodie is there, taunting him, teasing him, making him burn with a deep, undeniable need. But Cole promised her father that he’d protect her—even from himself—which means she’s off-limits.

Only he hadn’t counted on being the target of Melodie’s irresistible sensual assaults. Nor had he planned to lose his hardened heart in the battle…

Everything I love in a quick, hot romance

I have been looking forward to Cole and Melodie’s story since they appeared in the first book in this series, Hot and Sexy. That book teased an unrequited love between the sensible and efficient secretary, Melodie, and her grumpy, by-the-book (clueless) PI boss, Cole. But the whole love story of the pair starts in this book so you don’t need to have read the first book to read, enjoy and understand this one. You should go and grab it anyway, as it’s every bit as good as this one.

I loved Melodie as a character. Although she’s initially quite mousy, I felt that was more in appearance than in her heart. In her heart, she was a naughty little vixen. And when she decides to make some changes in her life, and go after what she really wants (with a little help from an unfortunately fictional self-help book, The Good Girl’s Guide to Being Bad) boy, does she go all in! New wardrobe, new attitude, new ways to torture Cole.

When a grumpy, broody hero falls, he falls hard.

Cole is my hero catnip. He’s big, broody, gruff and he knows his own mind and what he wants. Which makes it so much more wonderful to watch him first having “impure” thoughts about his secretary (both before and after her transformation). He really, really doesn’t want to but ha ha – he has no say when it comes to love and Melodie! And if it sounds like I like to see my heroes tortured – you’d be completely right!

This is Erika Wilde so of course this book is super sexy. Not only do we get the delightful shenanigans between Cole and Mel – including one time in a hot tub – but because of a case that they’re working on, there are also a few erotic love notes written mostly to Cole from Mel. While that was also hot, it was the adorably romantic note that Cole writes towards the end that really melted my heart. When a grumpy broody hero falls, he falls hard.

As always, Ms Wilde writes in a style that is so effortless, you can forget you’re actually reading rather than just being part of the story itself. She combines superb pacing – you never get bored with this book, and witty banter and dialogue with a perfect blend of sex and love. So now all we need do is wait for the third in the series, Hot and Bothered, featuring bad boy Noah. I can’t wait!
