Review: Hot and Sexy by Erika Wilde

She has him just where she wants him…

Joelle Sommers is very good at her job as a PI and bail recovery agent, but she’s definitely out of her element when she arrests sexy businessman Dean Colter in a case of mistaken identity. Because unlike her usual fugitives, Dean is cooperative, accommodating, and hot as sin… and not at all guilty as charged. But this bad boy isn’t so innocent either, and she finds it increasingly hard to resist his seductive charm, and their mutual attraction.

After years of working himself to the point of having no life outside the office, Dean Colter is in the mood for an adventure. But being kidnapped by a gorgeous bounty hunter—one he discovers is into bondage, to boot—isn’t exactly what he had in mind. Still, it doesn’t take long for him to realize that being a willing captive has its advantages.

Jo might be the one with the handcuffs, but Dean’s about to discover the key to unleashing the passionate, uninhibited woman beneath the tough, stubborn facade. And when he does, all bets are off.

A perfect pick-me-up

I am a huge fan of Erika Wilde’s and this story, like her others, brings us all the things I love about her writing and her stories. This is a vibrant and sexy story about two likeable and real characters that you just want to smoosh together! You’ll be up all night until this one is done!

I’m going to admit that I’m always a little bit apprehensive when our heroine is said to be a little bit kick-ass – and doing a profession when they’re also a little bit bad-ass. Will I like her? Will I identify with her (since kick-ass and bad-ass are two words that no-one is ever likely to call me!)? Will I be a little intimidated by her? Will she live up to the name of Jo?! So I have to admit to being pleasantly surprised that Jo was such a likeable character. Sure, she is kick-ass, but she’s not just that; She’s got layers and vulnerabilities the same as you and me and I enjoyed reading her, and was cheering for her to get her happily ever after.

And Dean? Well, he’s an Erika Wilde hero so he’s a little bit alpha, a whole lot cocky and head to toe sex on a stick! Yum! Oh, and he’s a good guy – current capture by a bounty hunter notwithstanding! As with Jo – it was a delight to see Dean fall and fall hard – and get his own happily ever after.

“You’ll be up all night until this one is done!”

The bounty hunter / fugitive storyline was something a wee bit different and I enjoyed it immensely – especially once the tables got turned on who was the captive and who was the captor! Not full on bondage going on but enough to titillate. And that went for all the sex scenes. Well, not even just sex. The first make-out session was so deliciously drawn out that I needed a lie down and cold compress right afterwards. Swoon! And back to the bounty hunter thing – I was pleased that Jo didn’t fall into bed with a felon – despite her attraction. Had she done that – I wouldn’t have been happy with her!

There’s also an underlying theme/storyline of Jo and her belief in herself – based on a traumatic incident from her past that still haunts her. This is obviously an upsetting incident for Jo – but thankfully, it’s not too harrowing for the reader. It felt real, but didn’t take away from the light and fresh tone of the book as a whole.

This is the first book in a new series (Some Like It Hot) and it teases the future books nicely – at least I’m hoping Melodie and Cole get their own story. I look forward to Cole being knocked on his ass when his assistant, Melodie, finally makes her move. This one is, as expected, a standalone and gives us a sweet and sexy HEA between Jo and Dean. This book is a great way to spend a couple of hours. It’s exactly what I needed for a sexy, readable pick-me-up. 5 stars.
