Review: Love Like Her by Claudia Burgoa

Love Like Her by Claudia Burgoa

Eros Brassard and I met at JFK years ago while trying to catch two different planes. We had an instant connection that was too powerful to deny. Love happened, and we hooked up.

After our crazy romp, we agreed we couldn’t be together. We live too far away to make it work. Yet ever since, destiny has brought us together. Our paths have crossed so many times it’s obvious fate has intervened in our lives.

But there’s always something else—or someone else—getting in the way. Until now.

I’m hired to plan the wedding of Eros’ best friend, Misty. He thought Misty was the one who got away… until I walked in.

Will circumstances push us apart again?

Or is it the perfect time… maybe… for us to finally admit the truth?

Love Like Her is a funny rom-com of fated lovers and cute crushes. This warm novel that’s cozy and flirty portrays a perfect ending of second—or third—or fourth—chances.

A sparkling story of soulmates

This is the third book in a wonderful series about the Brassard siblings. We got Persy’s story in Wrong Text, Right Love, then Nyx’s story in Didn’t Expect You and now older brother Eros gets his own story. Despite the siblings appearing in all three stories, this book stands completely alone so no need to have read the first two books to understand and like this one. In fact, much of the story takes place before and during – but separate to – the events in the first two books.

Eros and Olivia first meet during a snowstorm at an airport and they – and we – feel the spark of their connection immediately. Not only that, but their personalities absolutely shine from the first. This is something that I’ve noticed is a trademark of Claudia Burgoa’s writing. She writes such likeably quirky characters with such rich, full personalities and lives.

If you have read the first two books, you’ll know that Eros early family life was slightly unusual. In fact, when we first meet him in this book when he’s 23, he’s still trying to find his passion and purpose in life. But even with that he’s a sweet, kind, caring and funny guy. Who also just happens to be a total hottie and very much like his Greek namesake (the god of love and sex!). He really is the best kind of hero – a hot man with a heart of gold.

Olivia is an absolute delight. She’s fun, feisty and just a little bit quirky. I loved her honesty – with herself and Eros – and how she is utterly herself when she’s around him. I could identify with her desire to rely on herself but that made it all the more wonderful when she realised that she had Eros to lean on when times got tough.

“I couldn’t put this book down from beginning to end.”

And times did get tough in this book for both our main characters. It mostly is things that happen to others that affects them, rather than things happening directly to them, but it’s still emotionally charged and slightly upsetting at times. Having said that, it’s never laid on thick and never drags the story down or takes you to an overly dark place. Thankfully!

The book focuses on several encounters between our pair over several years – each time the pair meeting again by some random twist of fate. It’s not a ‘4 years later’ kind of book but rather time swiftly moving forward until we get to the present day. This is especially true once Eros and Olivia exchange numbers. It’s unusual but it definitely worked. I couldn’t put this book down from beginning to end.

Olivia and Eros are perfect for each other – something their chemistry proves just as well as their friendship and hilarious interactions, especially through texts. And as I say, their sexy times are just as delicious. I love it!

If I had a teeny tiny minor complaint, it was about the Misty storyline. I didn’t feel like she was needed as it was clear – to us readers at least – that Eros was already in love with Olivia. But if I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times, sometimes men just aren’t that bright, bless their cotton socks. At least he realised it in time to make a wonderful HEA with an equally wonderful epilogue – and I do so love an epilogue.

Claudia Burgoa has once again delivered an addictive story of soulmates who can never quite find the right time to be together – until they take destiny into their own hands. I loved this story from beginning to end and it’s definitely recommended and worth 5 stars from me.

Claudia is an award-winning, USA Today bestselling author.

She writes alluring, thrilling stories about complicated women and the men who take their breath away.

She lives in Denver, Colorado with her husband and her youngest two children. She has a sweet Bichon, Macey, who thinks she’s the ruler of the house. She’s only partially right.

When Claudia is not writing, you can find her reading, knitting, or just hanging out with her family. At night, she likes to binge-watch shows with her equally geeky husband.
