Review: Unforgotten Passion by Erika Wilde

As a famous pop star, Raevynn Walsh has lived most of her life surrounded by fame and fortune while her every choice or decision is controlled by others. Each day she dreams of breaking free from her star-studded castle. She may be living a fantasy, but it’s not her own.

Collin Donovan can’t resist an opportunity to attend the Wilder Way Fairy Tale Ball and catch a glimpse of the sensual songstress he’d once adored but had been forced to let go. When the familiar chemistry burns bright, Raevynn turns to Collin to rescue her from her chaotic life and glamorous prison, even if only for a short while.

After escaping the guards, the two lovers unravel the lies around them and rekindle the passions they’d thought were forgotten. With their time coming quickly to an end, can they save the princess from her gilded tower or is she doomed to stay caged in the spotlight forever?

My favourite of the fairytales

I’m really enjoying Erika Wilde’s Dirty Sexy Fairytale series and I’m delighted that it’s continuing even though the 3 Wilder siblings on whom the series originally focussed, all met their matches in the first 3 books (Total Surrender, Absolute Pleasure and No Inhibitions). This book focuses on Collin, who works for the siblings’ MadX-Tech corporation, and Raevynn – a successful, chart-topping singer who also happens to be the one that got away.

We’ve had stories loosely based on Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella and Lady and the Tramp, but this one takes its inspiration from my favourite fairytale – Rapunzel. (Okay, okay, fine – it’s Tangled that’s my favourite. Whatever!). Romance + #hairgoals = my jam.

Second chance love stories are also a favourite of mine and that’s what we get here. Back when they were younger, Collin and Raevynn were teen sweethearts until Collin did something that broke both their hearts and made them go their separate ways. Fear not – no cheating, even retrospectively. Seven years later, a chance encounter leads to the perfect set of circumstances to rekindle a romance that should and could never be. And if those circumstances kind of look like kidnapping – that’s just fine!

“[I] want to lick that book cover.”

There’s something about Erika Wilde’s writing that’s so easy. And I don’t mean that in a bad way. It’s just so effortlessly immersive that before you know it you’re deep into the story and rushing to get it finished while also wanting to savour every word. With Collin and Raevynn there’s a lot of what-ifs, suddenly remembered feelings and all new ones – it got me right in the feels as these two people fit perfectly together and really needed each other. Sigh. Throw in the return of Raevynn’s best friend and it was almost too much sweetness and happiness. Almost!

As you can imagine, there was also lots of sexiness going on with this story – but as I mentioned before, also a sweetness that really added some extra happiness to our tale. Collin is a macho, sexy man and when he leaned against door jambs and lazed on the couch with just his sweatpants on – I nearly very nearly swooned right along with Raevynn.

And if you think you’ll have nothing in common with a superstar singer, you’d be very wrong. She’s successful, talented and strong – but she’s also written as a very normal person and someone who I had no qualms in rooting for. I loved her – and not just because she’s Rapunzel!

This is my favourite of the Dirty Sexy Fairytale so far and I’m really enjoying the whole series. They take just enough inspiration from the original tale to make it interesting, but are different enough that it’s still always a fresh and exciting read. I would highly recommend this book, especially if you need a shot of love and happiness in your life. I also want to lick that book cover! Stunning! 5 stars for everything!
