My imitation of our billionaire boss had everyone ROFL. Wellā¦almost everyone. Worst. Butt-dial. Ever!
It was just some silly fun. A goofy imitation of the faceless mega-billionaire who owns our faceless international mega-corporation.
And yes, there was laughter. Possibly a few hoots and screams.
How was I to know that Dave from accounting had sat on the speakerphone, butt-dialing said mega-billionaire? Or that heād listen to me make fun of him for ten straight minutes.
Ummmā¦he couldāve announced himself!
They say heās a notorious rake. A paparazzi-punching scoundrel. An international jet-set bad boy.
And now I hear heās determined to track down the jokester. Me.
Eep!
But weāre tight like family in this officeāno way will my co-workers rat me out, in spite of the pressure from the top. Plus, who brings the cookies? Moi!
Things die down after a few months, and Iām pretty sure Iām safe.
Thank goodness, because I have my hands full with our lazy, arrogant new office gopher. He has the worst work ethic Iāve ever seenāhow did he even get hired? He doesnāt know how to work a vending machine, and heās baffled when we send around a card to be signed for somebodyās birthday. Itās as if heās never set foot in a place of business in his life.
But little by little, we’re drawing closer. He’s funny. Sexy. Wicked. Still, heās all wrong for me. I like respectable men with a work ethic.
Also, I canāt shake the feeling that heās hiding somethingā¦

So. Much. Awesomeness
This book is obviously my reward for reading through some very bog-standard romcoms of late. Because – gah – itās so much awesomeness. I mean, any book that gets me to actually cry over a freaking cactus and then guffaw about said same cactus the next instant, is definitely a 5-star winner right there!
This book is number 7 in Annika Martinās Billionaireās of Manhattan series but it completely stands alone and has its own HEA. Iāve read many of the other books in the series (but not all) and while Jaxon is a brand new character, I donāt think Jada is – but I donāt actually remember her. But thatās okay because while some of the girls from the earlier books appear, and some mentions are made of the couplings from those books, theyāre very much just there to support Jada and you donāt need to have read any other book to understand and enjoy this one. And Iām 100% sure youāll enjoy it.
We start off getting to know Jaxon, and I donāt know how Ms Martin did it, but despite his obnoxious, abrasive personality, I loved him instantly. Iām not going to say I fell in love with him, but he made me laugh with his take-no-prisoners, give-no-fucks attitude. As the book progresses, we get to see a deeper, more conflicted side to Jaxon and as he and Jada fell in love, thatās when I also fell in love with him. It was amazing how slowly and subtly, Jaxon began to change while still keeping that spark that made him special. I think I liked him all the more when he was in his 90s nerd persona.
Or maybe it was Jada I liked all the more because she fell in love with the Jaxon despite his ridiculously nerdy styling. As Jaxon said, she was such a good girl with a heart of gold – you couldnāt help but like and admire her. But she had a spine of steel and a naughty streak that made her the perfect partner for Jaxon as well as making her a more interesting and likeable character. Regardless, she felt real to me and I was cheering for her from the start.
I just adored Jaxon and Jada as a couple. Looking back, I suppose this was something of a slow burn – but I didnāt realise that while I was reading. Thatās because they had such chemistry whether it was through the snarky banter, the friendly ribbing and finally to the sexy times. Jaxon is a dirty talker and manages to push Jada past her limits. But itās when he stops wanting to play games that things take a serious turn and thatās when those pesky, awesome feelings start to creep in. Gah – it made me so happy.
I just devoured this story and had a whale of time while reading. Annika Martinās writing is so much fun while still giving you exactly what we all come here for – love, sex and romance. The humour was seamlessly ingrained in the story and I laughed out loud on many occasion. And then of course there was that awful moment with Keith – and a few others – where I actually welled up. But all these elements just combined to make such a fun, sexy and downright awesome book. I loved every moment of reading and this is definitely one of my top reads for this year. I just loved it. 5 stars.

Annika Martin loves fun, dirty stories, hot heroes, and wild, dramatic everything. She enjoys hanging out in Minneapolis coffee shops with her writer husband, and also likes birdwatching at her bird feeder alongside her two stunningly photogenic cats, especially when she should be writing. Sheās heavy into running, music, saving the planet, taking long baths, and consuming chocolate suckers.
Sheās worked a surprisingly large number of waitressing jobs, and has also worked in a plastics factory and the advertising trenches; her garden is total bee-friendly madness and her most unfavorite word is nosh or possibly fob. A NYT bestselling author, she has also written as RITA award-winning author Carolyn Crane.
