Sweet, simple but still sexy
This is the second time round for this book but not only have we got a shiny new cover, but we have 12 additional chapters from its first iteration. Having not read the book previously, I can’t say how much these new chapters change the original story – but 12 chapters is a lot so it’s definitely going to be more fleshed out.
This is part of the Insta-Spark series which is a set of quick and sweet standalone stories where the sparks fly instantly. It’s kind of like a more believable insta-love type story. There’s almost zero angst, little drama but still deliciously sexy times and a heavy dose of happiness, love and warm feelings.
Our couple, Simon and Amy, have already met by the time our story starts, but we arrive just as they start to take things to the next level. Simon has just moved to Cliff’s Edge, a small town outside Halifax, NS, with his daughter. My sister also lives in a small town outside Halifax so I got needlessly excited by the setting.
Simon is the kind of single-dad hero that I’m sure are only found in romance novels. He’s hot, kind, smart, caring and adores his young daughter with every fibre of his being. He’s been hurt in the past which means I easily forgave him for his stupidity at the start of his and Amy’s relationship. Luckily Amy forgave him, too! Apart from that minor blip he’s just perfection and when he falls for Amy he falls hard. It’s divine.
Amy is described as more of a wild child than Simon – but she’s really just a sweet, kind and fun girl. She also has her issues but they’ve helped her see what she will and won’t put up with. It was hard not to fall in love with her, too, especially as she was falling in love with both Simon and his sweet daughter, Mia.
Like I said, there is almost zero angst or drama in this story – just one thing really, which is dealt with in the middle of the story so it’s not the main focus. Instead, to me, this read like the perfect kind of epilogue. It was a simple tale of a couple who meet, date, have a few blips, but ultimately fall in love and become a family.
There’s still a fair amount of sex and shenanigans in the story which heats it up nicely. I’m all for the good times but I must not be one for potential discovery as the scene in the woods almost had me palpitating in fear of them being caught!
I already a die-hard fan of Ms Moreland’s but these kind of Insta-Spark stories just feel like a warm hug. They’re optimistic, fun, sweet, sexy and ultimately make me feel hopeful and happy. Couple with that the writing, which is exemplary as per usual, and we’ve got another winner here that I’m happy to give 5 stars to and very much recommend.

New York Times/USA Today bestselling author Melanie Moreland, lives a happy and content life in a quiet area of Ontario with her beloved husband of twenty-seven-plus years and their rescue cat, Amber. Nothing means more to her than her friends and family, and she cherishes every moment spent with them.
While seriously addicted to coffee, and highly challenged with all things computer-related and technical, she relishes baking, cooking, and trying new recipes for people to sample. She loves to throw dinner parties, and also enjoys traveling, here and abroad, but finds coming home is always the best part of any trip.
Melanie loves stories, especially paired with a good wine, and enjoys skydiving (free falling over a fleck of dust) extreme snowboarding (falling down stairs) and piloting her own helicopter (tripping over her own feet.) She’s learned happily ever afters, even bumpy ones, are all in how you tell the story.
