I, Drake Colter, solemnly swear I do not want a girlfriend…
Carefree and ridiculously good-looking, I have the entire student body eating from the palm of my hand—shouldn’t I let the ladies on campus have their fill rather than being tied down? If only my brother Drew would take notes from my playbook. As identical twins, we share the same voice, the same face, and the same physique; it’s virtually impossible to tell us apart—but that’s where the similarities end.
Lately, my brother has been whining about wanting to settle down with. He longs for affection, companionship and all the bullshit that goes along with it blah blah blah. Problem is, he’s hopeless when it comes to dating. It’s seriously embarrassing to watch, considering we’re identical; everyone thinks I’m him and everyone thinks he’s me.
Luckily I’m not intimidated by women and have plenty of experience. I might not want to find myself a girlfriend, but that doesn’t mean I can’t help him. Dude never needs to know!
And that’s the very thing that lands me in trouble…

Sassy, sexy and fun college romance
Each time I pick up a Sara Ney book, I’m taken aback at how unique her storytelling is. I remember that I’ve read her books and loved her books – but I forget just how much she gets into her characters heads and makes them come alive on the page. This book is no exception and it really showcases her singular voice.
This is the second book in the Campus Legends series, all about the Colter Brothers – football gods from a legendary footballing family, all attending the University of Wisconsin. The first book, How to Lose at Love, is another great book but you don’t have to read it to understand or enjoy this one. Dallas from that book barely appears in this one although his girlfriend, Ryann, does as she’s still at uni and is Drake and Drew’s roommate.
As soon as you meet Drake you’ll realise what I mean when I say that Sara Ney has a distinctive voice. Her characters speak through the pages and you will never convince me that Ms Ney is not a closet 21 year old boy / man at heart. Drake’s so real and honest. Cocky – definitely, but actually caring, kind and a little bit unsure as well. It was hard not to like him and he made me laugh time and time again.
Like Drake points out, the Colter brothers seem to have a ‘type’ of woman – strong, feisty, sarcastic and sassy. And that describes Daisy to a T. Like Drake, she feels so real as we get her thoughts and musings as the story progresses. She’s all those attributes above but still relatable, likeable and someone I really rooted for.
While Daisy and Drake are in many ways opposites, they’re also quite similar, too. But they still shoot sparks off each other. The text messages between the pair, where they flirted and bantered, were where the chemistry was on overload but they were also super sweet together. There was a slight dip after Drake’s subterfuge has been revealed, but it soon picks back up again especially with future visits to the bathroom and then the sex. This is the only book that has ever made bathroom trysts sexy, I should add. Luckily there’s loo roll in there so I could dab at my fevered brow!
Rather than be weird and creepy, Drake’s taking Drew’s place is so funny – especially since you know it’s never going to end well. Once it does come to a head, it’s glorious and it elevated Drew into the future leading man category. I can’t wait to read his story and whomever his girl will be is one lucky thing. Like I said before, once Drake’s plans are foiled, there is a slight lull since we’ve just been on such a fantastic high, but the five dates are great and I loved the fact that Drake and Daisy were getting to know each other’s real selves.
Sara Ney’s writing style might not be for everyone. While I love reading her characters, stories and the shenanigans they get up to, I’m also aware that she’s probably a bit like marmite. But that’s okay because I, as I have done with every Sara Ney book I’ve read to date, really loved this story. I honestly think she’s a bit like the characters she writes – sassy, feisty and a little bit naughty. It was a fun, fresh and interesting read and I’m loving this series as a whole. If you’re into college / university romances with lots of fun, sexiness and sass, then this book could be your next favourite read. 5 stars from me.
